Description
Opened in 1962, The Queen's Gallery within Buckingham Palace was built out of the bomb-damaged ruins of a former private chapel. Now totally redeveloped, it is a permanent space dedicated to the art and treasures held in trust by The Queen for the Nation.
The gallery takes its exhibits from the Royal Collection, one of the largest and most important collections in the world and one of the last great European royal collections to remain intact. During your hour-long audio tour, you’ll learn about the sovereigns and consorts who have influenced the shape and diversity of the Collection.
Art lovers will be enamoured to view over 450 works on display, from the likes of Duccio, Dürer, Clouet, Rubens and Van Dyck. Discover a rich and varied collection of sculptures, furniture and photographs, some commissioned as grand diplomatic gifts, others as intimate personal mementos between the royal family. From priceless possessions, to invaluable guests; there are few institutions that can claim to have had Winston Churchill, Henry James and Ian Fleming as members.
Continue to treat your senses, with gastronomic mastery as you savour a five course tasting experience at Quilon. This meticulously designed South-West Indian menu won the restaurant a Michelin star in 2008, which it has maintained ever since. Expect subtle spicing and flavours presented with modern twists; a unique blend of ethnic and progressive dishes with seafood at its heart.
