Willamette Valley, Oregon

£1,250

“If you want to be ahead of the curve with your next wine country vacation, Oregon’s Willamette Valley is the place to be” Forbes

Why we love it

In little over four decades, Oregon’s Willamette Valley has blossomed into a world-class winemaking region. Its winemakers are pioneers in sustainability, and dedicated to small-batch artisanal winemaking; some producing fewer than 5,000 cases each year. Head to the Beaver State to discover first-hand why “Pinot Noir has found an American home in Oregon.” - Wine Spectator

Description

While the Willamette Valley is blessed with a cool climate - perfect for growing its famous Pinot Noir - Oregon is by no means a one-dimensional wine destination. The microclimate seen in this Pacific-facing region produces a diverse range of wines to satisfy any palate: sprightly sparkling wines, light rosés, mineral Rieslings, Syrahs, Cabernets and dessert wines.

The LEED Gold–certified Allison Inn & Spa is a luxurious and relaxing destination from which to explore the region. Perched on 35 acres of vineyard and private gardens, the inns’ Napa-style luxury has earned it the nickname “the living room of the Willamette Valley” and was voted in the Top 25 Hotels in the US at the Conde Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards.

The spa, the largest in the state, was voted the #1 Hotel Spa in the Continental US by Travel + Leisure Magazine and maintains the Willamette Valley ethos by providing treatments that utilise local ingredients. Guests can enjoy treatments such as the “Grape Seed Cure”, a crushed grape seed and organic honey scrub, and the “Mimosa Massage” with champagne oils.

Exploring Willamette Valley, enjoy a private tasting and tour at Oregon’s largest winery, Penner-Ash Wine Cellars. Established in 1998 by husband and wife team, Lynn and Ron Penner-Ash, the young winery embodies the Willamette Valley spirit for high-grade, small-production winemaking. Six Penner-Ash wines have scored 90+ points from wine critics and their signature Pinot Noir featured in the North West category’s top eight wines of 2015. Taste five award-winning wines in the tasting room, with picturesque views over the surrounding vineyards.

Moving from the largest wineries to one of the smallest, the biodynamic Bergström Winery believes in a natural and non-invasive process, without the use of chemical fertilisers, and harvesting the fruit by hand at peak maturity. Enjoy a flight of four to five single-vineyard wines, with a chance to try their big, oaky Pinot Noir on the beautiful terrace.

Reserve your second afternoon for a luxurious wine-paired lunch in the private dining room at Adelsheim Vineyard. Savour small plates of regional, in-season and locally sourced cuisine.
