The home of one of golf's most prestigious elites, The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, the Open Championship venue of Muirfield is one of the finest and most famous courses in the world. Indulge in a luxury two night stay in nearby Edinburgh for four, with private transfer to the course to enjoy a day's play on the famed green. Located in East Lothian, overlooking the crashing Firth of Forth, Muirfield has been at the forefront of golf for over a century. Designed by Tom Morris in 1891, the course hosted its first Open Championship within a year. Since then, its position at the centre of the sport has strengthened. The Honourable Company were the first to inscribe the 'thirteen rules' that formed the basis for the rules of the modern game. The course, known as the home of the foursome, maintains the general layout established by Tom Morris - a clockwise outer first nine holes and a counter-clockwise inner second nine, with the wind angle ever-changing. The course includes a wonderful level of undulation, with few blind shots as it slopes very gradually uphill towards the sea. Muirfield has always been referred to as the fairest test on the rota because of this, combined with its fairly flat surface, but the firm turf requires top quality ball striking in order to achieve a birdie. Around the course, guests will enjoy the rolling expanse of green and the crashing Firth of Forth sea beyond the cliff edge, as the crystal clear air reinvigorates your being. On this luxury Edinburgh golf break, guests will be able to play two rounds of golf on the hallowed turf, fourballs golf in the morning and foursomes golf in the afternoon, while enjoying a five-star stay in Edinburgh. Staying in one of the city's top hotels, we will provide guests with a luxury transfer from their hotel to the course by morning and arrange for a return journey after the day's play. Please note that non-members can only play at Muirfield on Tuesdays or Thursdays, while, to play between the months of April and September, bookings up to one year in advance may be required. The course is open year-round, however, and play between October and March is equally rewarding. Having completed the day's play at Muirfield, guests will be treated to the prestigious tasting menu at one of Edinburgh's finest restaurants that evening, to complete this Edinburgh golf break. Since opening in 1999, Restaurant Martin Wishart has held true to its original mission – to bring the very best traditional and modern French cuisine to Edinburgh, using the finest and freshest Scottish local ingredients. Today, Restaurant Martin Wishart is one of the most celebrated restaurants in Britain, with achievements including twice being named “Scottish Restaurant of the Year” by The Good Food Guide, and having been voted the UK’s 8th best restaurant by The Times. The restaurant won Edinburgh its first Michelin star in 2001 and has retained it every year since, testament to the palatable cuisine on offer.
