Description

Roka is the brainchild of renowned Japanese expert Rainer Becker - the mastermind behind fellow celebrity hotspot Zuma in Knightsbridge. Becker has crafted the award-winning dining room to showcase his knowledge in making Japanese food ultra-sharp and fashionable, without compromising flavour or authenticity.

The name Roka springs from the Japanese ‘Ro’ (a place for conviviality) and ‘Ka’ (a concept of all-embracing energy). While every space at the restaurant – and subterranean Shochu bar – have been designed to harmonise with its shared-plate philosophy, there is no doubt that the beating heart of is the centrally located robata grill. Watch the half-dozen chefs in action with clouds of steam rising from the food and the driving background music. Shouts of ‘Hai’ from the chefs as orders are called produces a sense of theatricality.

The key to the Roka philosophy is in the scrutiny with which they source all of their products; even the charcoal is bincho tan from Wakayama near Osaka. This careful sourcing is showcased in the dishes, including yellowtail sashimi with truffled yuzu; served with the excellent Krug Grand Cuvée Brut.

This unique-to-TRULY dining experience ends with Roka’s show-stopping dessert platter, paired with ‘Nanbu Bijin’, a revered saké from the Iwate prefecture in Eastern Japan. Produced by 5th generation sake brewer Kosuke Kuji, Nanbu Bijin lives up to its reputation as an internationally loved saké.
