Why we love it

Described as more of a theatrical experience than a spot for dinner, Tattu transports one into a world of vibrant extravagance. Taking inspiration from body art and its rich history; the Tattu brand prides itself on using the traditional art of tattooing to connect people. The design of each restaurant mimics this philosophy with ornate decorations and intricate wall displays, all brought together under the roof of an enormous and iconic cherry blossom tree.

  • Indulge in the Signature Sharing Emperor's Choice Menu for two at Tattu Birmingham
  • Enjoy four waves of sharing plates, with two to three dishes per wave
  • Dine on fine seafood such as whole lobster and soft scallops

  • Experience the playground on a plate dessert, named after the iconic Cherry Blossom tree

Description

The third branch from the illustrious Tattu brand is something special. Its location is one of global acclaim, due to its visitors over the years which included Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin and Martin Luther King.

The Grand Hotel on Colmore Row is a 137-year-old hotel which fell into disrepair during the 1980s. However, with its most recent refurbishment, the basement boiler room caught the eye of Tattu MD, Adam Jones, and has since become the unique setting for this equally unique restaurant. ‘Birmingham has always been of interest to us as a location with its diverse range of operators and unique culinary heritage,’ says Jones.

Each Tattu has its own identity, taking guests on a sensory journey from East to West through its award-winning interior design and astute attention to detail. The menu fuses traditional Chinese flavours with modern cooking techniques and the bar has its own twist on cocktail trends, with options such as the Negroni with a cherry blossom twist or the Skull Candy - Tattu's famous smoking skull, vodka, bubblegum and strawberry.

Your experience invites you to indulge in the Signature Sharing Emperor's Choice Menu – a true culinary masterpiece. Served in waves, one can expect sophisticated seafood such as chilli and sesame roasted scallops and Koi fish mini boa buns, followed by waves two and three, presenting dishes such as Japanese black Wagyu ribeye, whole lobster and crispy duck pancakes.

Included in your dessert selection is the Cherry Blossom, which has been described as ‘a playground on a plate’. The dish is made up of an assortment of bite size cherry-flavoured treats from mini macaroons to candy floss and ice cream. To even out the tart, sour flavour of the fruit, the dessert comes with dark chocolate twigs and a gold-coated chocolate mousse. Sheer perfection!

If the Emperor did have a choice, there’s no iota of doubt this would be his first. And, probably, his only.
