  • Lovely Weekend Trip

A friend and I recently traveled to Paris for a weekend and participated in the French Desserts class headed by a very friendly chef. The class was taught in English and located in an easy to find spot.

Prior to attending the class, I considered myself to be something of an accomplished baker albeit a home one. The chef astounded me with his expertise, and I came away knowing a lot more than I did going in!

While I learned to prepare five traditional French desserts including madeleines, creme brulee, gateau Basque, molten chocolate cakes and mousse (I believe the line-up does change from time to time), the chef provided myriad tips and an informational dialogue about the scientific processes of baking! I wish that I had taken notes. His manner was easy and infectious; you can tell he's passionate about cooking. He even provides a list of stockists and the recipes so that you can recreate the desserts at home.

I'd recommend this class to anyone who wishes to immerse him/herself in the culinary side of France. I plan to attend the school again when I'm next in Paris. Put this class on your things to do list along side the usual suspects: the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, d'Orsay, et al.

The hotel was nice too. Its comfortable if you are trying to chill out, and in a spot that meant it was easy to reach lots of things we wanted to see like the Louvre.

    Romantic Paris Break

I took my boyfriend to Paris for his birthday weekend and chose this package because the activity sounded like something nice to do together. The hotel is well-connected and well-located, excellent location for all sightseeing. Would highly recommend the hotel, staff were amazing, so helpful and polite and remembered our names every morning when we came down!! We took the desserts class on a Saturday afternoon, learned how to cook several Parisian desserts with a personable, professional chef who easily imparted his love of teaching others how to create artfully scrumptious edibles! It is a great way to meet a few other travelers, work together, and celebrate several successful recipes in three hours. Questioned are welcomed, the recipes emailed the same day, as well as information on where to get the ingredients used. Highly recommended.

  • Marvellous macarons

My daughter and I took the macaron class and had a great time. An Australian ex-pat was our instructor and led the class through making three varieties of delightful cookies. Although we observed and assisted, our instructor handled the trickier aspects of the baking (such as insuring that our sugar syrup was at exactly the correct temperature), so that in the end, our macarons tasted as good as they looked. We took two dozen macarons back to our hotel, and, as promised, they were even better on the second day. A very fun afternoon--highly recommended.

Rooms were large and comfortable (for Paris). Staff was very friendly and attentive, and rooms had a very modern design. The location was not far to walk to see the sights. We are picky travelers and liked it alot.
