Why we love it

Independent, London-based wine merchant, Humble Grape are dedicated to making quality wines more socially inclusive and approachable. Their one-day wine school aims to bridge the gap between the wine drinker and the wine maker and is all about sharing good wine, together. Fun and informative, this tasting session is perfect for those who have a passion for wine and who are keen to broaden their knowledge.

What's Included?

  • Enjoy a two and half hour private wine school for six guests at Humble Grape in Fleet Street or Battersea
  • Begin with a glass of fizz, followed by tasting a minimum of eight hand-crafted artisan wines
  • Followed by a delicious three-course lunch each hosted by Humble Grape’s Founder, James Dawson, including a blind tasting
  • Conclude with an individual Vinotyping session, a personalised wine ‘test’ to determine each student's wine preferences

Description

Humble Grape are an independent wine merchant based in London. Since 2009, they have been seeking out hand-crafted, biodynamic and organic wines from relatively unknown and sustainable vineyards around the world.

Their two and a half hour one-day wine school offers a fun and informative training session for those passionate about wine and who are keen to broaden their knowledge. The sessions are held at either the flagship 3600 sqft wine bar and cellar on St. Bride’s Passage – a venue steeped in history and tucked away down a hidden alley, next to the vaults of St Bride’s church – or Humble Grape Battersea, an elegant, industrial-inspired boutique wine bar on bustling Battersea Rise in South London.

Opening with a glass of fizz, guests will taste a minimum of eight hand-crafted artisan wines throughout the session. Learn about different grape varieties, journey through old world and new world wines and conclude with a vinotyping session.

Vinotyping discerns one’s favourite tastes and flavours, likes and dislikes, to determine wine preferences based on personal, psychological and physiological traits using a series of questions devised by Master of Wine, Tim Hanni. Taking the answers from a series of brief questions, Hanni’s method is able to categorise guest’s tastes into one of four categories: Sweet, Hypersensitive, Sensitive and Tolerant. From that, guests will be advised which wines will best suit their palates.

Following the tasting, savour a delicious three-course lunch hosted by Humble Grape’s Founder, James Dawson, during which guests will be invited to blind taste the wines they’ve already sampled, to test their knowledge.
