As you explore London's riverbanks, you’ll gain a deep understanding of its long and chequered history. This private tour is perfect for enthusiasts for the past and anyone looking for a close-up view of old London. Book your Tales of the Thames Tour today; the river will never look the same.
Start Point: Blackfriars Tube Station
End Point: Waterloo or London Bridge Tube Station
You will start your tour on the site of the former Dominican Monastery at Blackfriars, until the sixteenth century a huge complex beside the River Thames, and end in Oxo Tower, with glorious river view.
Tthe route is as follows:
East through the winding streets of Blackfriars - an area that Shakespeare liked enough to buy a loft apartment here - and the City of London to the river's oldest crossing, London Bridge (its modern version), to reach Borough Market. There's been a provisions market here for over a thousand years, even during the long, dark years of British food in the 1970s.
Why not pop into the odd pub for a drink and a Scotch egg (or its vegan equivalent) as you amble through? Then walk the river to the Oxo Tower, whose top-floor restaurant looks straight at St Paul's Cathedral.
