Description

Whisky has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years, partly in thanks to the revival of the Old Fashioned, a classic cocktail brought back to the limelight by the TV series Mad Men. This has meant that whisky has been thrown to the forefront once again – which is great news for whisky lovers. It is commonly known that wine can be matched with many foods to enhance the flavour profiles, so the question is, could the same be said about whisky?

During your masterclass at The Bar at the Athenaeum, you’ll be guided through four different flavour profiles from various parts of Scotland. Understanding how they are produced and distributed, you’ll then sample a 25ml dram of each. To complement the whisky, premium cheeses are included throughout the tasting, highlighting the complex characteristics of each.

Perfectly paired are Balvenie Double Wood (17 yrs) and Ragstone Cheese; Hazelburn (8yrs) and Tunworth Cheese; Cutty Sark (25yrs) and Devon Blue Cheese; and Lagavulin Distillers Edition and Westcombe Cheddar. Discerning your favourites, you’ll then have the opportunity to relax in the intimate ambience of the bar, asking the expert mixologist any questions you may have.
