Description

Walk in Winston Churchill's footsteps and discover what life would have been like for Churchill and his inner circle during the Second World War as they planned the route to Allied victory. Unlock the secrets behind Churchill's success by exploring the Map Room, which has remained exactly as it was left the day the lights were switched off in 1945; hear extracts from Churchill's rousing wartime speeches such as "blood, toil, tears and sweat" and "we shall fight them on the beaches"; stand alongside the original No. 10 door that Churchill walked through after becoming Prime Minister; and view fascinating, cutting-edge multimedia displays of devoted letters he wrote to his wife, to photo and film clips of his early life. With admissions tickets for two, spend all afternoon delving into this extraordinary branch of the Imperial War Museum.

After a day exploring the top-secret bunker, journey a short distance to Mayfair to savour a three-course lunch at Michelin-starred restaurant, Alyn Williams at The Westbury. Situated in London's exclusive Mayfair neighbourhood, the Westbury Hotel is a modern 5-star landmark. The restaurant within features a stylish and elegant dining room in the centre of the hotel, branded by John Lancaster at The Guardian as "a temple of gastronomy". The food is impressive "first-class cooking", and the menu reflects a London influence on traditional European cuisine.

Sample Menu:

  • Tempura soft shell crab with espelette aioli, fennel, and preserved lemon
  • Grilled Beef rib cap, crushed potato, pickled red onion, and fried bread
  • Chocolate tart with crystallised sorrel, and lemon sorrel ice cream

Reviews

  • Excellent

The visit exceeded our expectations. We allowed for two hours at the War Rooms before departing for the pre-booked lunch at the Westbury, which was superb, but could have spent up to another hour in the Museum section. All in all a wonderful experience and very well organised by you.

Great meals, excellent explanation by restaurant chef

Barring the weather, the whole day was reasonable. We should have allocated more time to view the war rooms. Apart from the "bites", we thought the other three courses of the meal were great. Finally, we thought that the little explanation given by the M restaurant chef about the meats was excellent.
