Description

Gillray’s Steakhouse & Bar is situated in prime position on the banks of the River Thames and culinary centrepiece of London’s five-star Marriott Hotel County Hall. It carries a rich British history within its walls, occupying what was once the Council Member’s Reading Room of County Hall. The restaurant takes its name from the eighteenth century satirist James Gillray, and features some of his works on the walls and the titles of some of his classic images are used as names for cocktails, featuring The Morning After Marriage, and the Fashionable Contrasts.

Headed by Executive Chef Jamie Welch, who pays homage to top quality British produce and sources his products from within 150 miles of the restaurant using Kent and Essex based farms. The cuts of steak are from herds reared in Yorkshire, on the Duke of Devonshire’s Bolton Abbey Estate, all 35 day dry aged Aberdeen Angus, rich and succulent. Sit down to a sumptuous three course sharing menu, including champagne on arrival, starters, a 1kg Tomahawk steak cooked to perfection, with four sides, ending with the signature sharing Tiptree lemon and meringue pie.

The decor is sophisticated, but unpretentious, playing on the eccentric but charming details of classic lighting and statement furniture with oak panelled walls, high backed leather sofas and crystal chandeliers. Diners are treated to impressive panoramic views of the riverside and across to Parliament. Though the food is enough to have you coming back for more, it is the unrivalled Thameside views that make Gillray’s a most memorable dining destination.
