Why we love it

Let’s be honest, after watching Maverick and Goose take to the skies in Top Gun, the idea of flying became that much more appealing. Swooping through the skies, taking full control of a great airborne machine – the rush is almost palpable. Now, you have the opportunity to discover exactly what it feels like to be a pilot for a day: planning the route, flying the plane and, once back on the ground, landing the aircraft for yourself through the use of a flight simulator.

What's Included?

  • Discover how it feels to be a pilot for the day with Almat Flying Academy
  • Learn about safety checks, basic navigation techniques and how to use the controls
  • Together with your instructor, decide on a route and create a flight plan
  • Take turns to fly and navigate the aircraft to another airfield, before trying out landing the aircraft through a flight simulator
  • Log your hours in a free pilot logbook and take home a memorable photo of the flight from the day

Description

This is the ultimate insight day for those looking to explore the idea of piloting as a career. Throughout the day, you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with an expert instructor who will walk you through a detailed approach to flying an aircraft.

A brief introduction will explain the day’s events as well as providing an overview of how the controls work to propel the aircraft. Thereafter, the ‘A Check’ will occur – a thorough pre-flight check of the plane's systems as per the aircraft’s check lists. This is great way to learn about the control systems and the reasons behind the check.

During the pre-flight planning session, you will review the weather and aircraft performance, planning the outbound and return flight including diversion options. This is a classroom session with the instruction team to give you an insight into planning a route in its basic form and, thereafter, how to fly the planned route.

After this, you’ll be ready to fly. A four-seater aircraft will be used and whilst you take the role of the pilot, another guest will perform the role of the navigator, following the chart and planned route to your destination (or vice versa).

On arrival at the alternate airfield, you’ll be able to have a rest and stop for something to eat and drink, before embarking on the return adventure. Once grounded back at your point of origin, you’ll step into a flight simulator where you will be able to practice your new techniques in a landing simulation.

At the end of the day, you’ll receive a certificate of achievement and post-flight debrief followed by the chance to ask any further questions about your experience. You’ll also have the opportunity to log your flying time in your free log book which will contribute towards your PPL.
