Why we love it

If you’ve always wanted to learn to fly a helicopter, or simply enjoy the adrenaline rush of something adventurous, here is your chance. Piloting your own aircraft is no easy feat, but with the expert guidance and mentorship of the professional pilots at Phoenix Helicopters, you have the opportunity to co-pilot a Cabri G2.

What's Included?

  • Discover what it’s like to fly a Cabri G2 helicopter with a hands-on 30-minute lesson for one with Phoenix Helicopters in either Surrey or Hampshire
  • Get to grips with all aspects of helicopter flight, including how to operate the controls and what happens at take-off and landing with a 20 to 30-minute briefing
  • Take the controls and fly the helicopter yourself during your 30-minute flight
  • Log your 30-minutes flying time in your log book with your instructor if you are training, or plan to train, towards your PPL(H)
  • Receive a certificate of achievement at the end of your flight

Description

Planes need thrust, force and drag in order to lift off and fly, whereas a helicopter uses a rotor, which is like a large propeller, to generate vertical thrust to get off the ground. The big difference between planes and helicopters is how they create lift, which is what makes learning to fly a helicopter so interesting, especially in a Guimbal Cabri G2 – designed specifically for training.

Take to the skies in this 30-minute lesson with the chance to fly the helicopter yourself. The G2 trial lesson is a great way to get an idea of what it’s like to take control of a helicopter in flight. Starting you off on your pilot journey, you’ll receive a comprehensive briefing, including safety checks, ground and airborne emergency drills.

Operation of the helicopter happens through multiple controls which you will be shown how to manoeuvre and operate, as this is something you will get to do during your 30-minute flying lesson.

The lesson typically starts with upper air handling, before focusing on low level exercises such as the hover. Students are given each control individually before combining multiple controls.

Once back on the ground, you’ll receive a certificate of achievement and post-flight debrief followed by the chance to ask any further questions about your experience. You’ll also have the opportunity to log your 30-minutes flying time in your log book with your instructor if you are training, or plan to train, towards your PPL(H).
