Description

Since 2009, Humble Grape have been seeking out hand-crafted wines from relatively unknown vineyards from around the world. All their wines are imported directly from winemakers who share a deep passion for their craft and who produce mainly biodynamic and organic wines from sustainable vineyards. Rather than hone in on the specifics, Humble Grape prides itself on relating to wine through the stories of its producers, with staff regaling tales of honey badgers roaming the vineyards or wild pigs trying to eat the grapes before they are harvested.

Now, Humble Grape have teamed up with internationally renowned ‘flavour maven’, Tim Hanni. One of just two American’s to have earned the accredited title ‘Master of Wine’, Hanni has a unique perspective on food and wine, providing a modern and innovative approach to the subject.

Known as 'vino-typing', Tim's inventive process aims to discern wine drinkers’ favourite tastes and flavours, and likes and dislikes, to determine wine preferences based on personal, psychological and physiological traits. Tasting four wines across a broad spectrum, vino-typing categorises guests into one of four categories: Sweet, Hypersensitive, Sensitive and Tolerant. After tasting each wine, guests are presented with iPad to 'rate' the wines, based on their likes and dislikes of the wines tasted - the results of which place each guest in their corresponding vinotype. All the wines available have a coloured sticker corresponding to a type so that navigating Humble Grape’s extensive wine range is made simple.

The experience can be enjoyed at either the Fleet Street or Battersea locations; Humble Grape Fleet Street is housed underneath the famed St. Bride's Church and comes with plenty of organic modern cellar aesthetic, while Humble Grape Battersea, settled on bustling Battersea Rise in South London, is an elegant, industrial-inspired boutique wine bar. At both locations, wines will be paired with a ‘Humble Platter’, choosing from cheese, cured meat, vegetable or seafood.

Reviews

  • A hidden gem.

Just a lovely experience - we were made to feel at home from the minute we walked in. Desiree was knowledgable and chatty during our tasting, but didn't make us feel crowded and gave us plenty of time to sit with the wines and get through our tasting board (which was delicious too). I'd requested a vegetarian platter, and they had gone out of their way to select vegan and veggie friendly wines for us. Even threw in a little birthday dessert for my boyfriend, which was a great way to round off the tasting. 10/10 all round!

    Loads of fun

Really relaxed, welcoming and informative evening. Loads of fun. Would certainly recommend to friends and will be doing so.

  • Nice experience

We really enjoyed our tasting experience at Humble Grape. The manager led us through the tasting with lots of helpful information about Vino-Typing and the wines we were trying. It's a lovely venue and the wine selection was very nice.
