Description

Discover Piedmont from the luxurious comfort of Relais San Maurizio. Built by Cistercian monks travelling along the Old Salt Road in 1619, the first Relais & Châteaux of Piedmont sits in the heart of Barolo’s vineyards and the white truffle region. Enjoy stunning views of the Langhe hills, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, relax in a salt therapy spa, and take in the extraordinary vistas from the hilltop pool.

On day two, begin a whirlwind tour of Piedmont in La Morra. At more than 1,600 feet above sea level, La Morra offers commanding views over the entirety of Barolo’s vineyards. At a small boutique winery, taste Nebbiolo and Barolos wines with the owner and savour a relaxing lunch in the village before venturing to a beautiful family run winery to taste their outstanding wines.

On day three, take to the hillside communes of Barolo, Monforte d’Alba and Serralunga. Discover a family run winery and enjoy Barbera, Nebbiolo and Barolos wines, while learning the art of winemaking. Lunch is served in a typical osteria in Barolo village where you can taste "carne battuta al coltello" and homemade tajarin (fresh egg yolk pasta).

On the final day, travel to one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, Neive. Explore a winery producing only 8000 outstanding bottles of limited production Barbarescos each year, and enjoy lunch featuring traditional Barbaresco recipes at an osteria in the village.

On a night of your choosing, Chef Manuel Bouchard will serve up traditional favourites with haute culinary elegance at Ristorante Antinè, in Barbaresco. Neighbouring the medieval tower, legend has it that the villa was once an ancient prison. The restaurant uses garden-fresh produce and local Alba truffles in its dishes and, of course, Barbaresco’s distinctive ruby red wines. In the intimate and elegant dining space, savour dishes such as Veal cheek with Barbaresco reduction and Tuna Antinè-style.

Wineries to See

Clerico, Corino, Gaja, Mascarello, Massolino, Parusso, Rinaldi, Viberti and Voerzio
