“The beer, being visibly brewed on site, is varied and tasty, with a good selection of international craft ales on hand to boot” Time Out

Why we love it

The CRATE Brewery boasts a beautiful spot on the river, with graffiti and a lively hip crowd. A one-of-a-kind up-cycled venue, almost everything you see has been sourced and put together using old materials by local artists. If you’re intrigued by how water, hops, malt, and yeast become a delicious craft beer, then this tour is perfect for you. The aim is to take guests on a journey through the history of brewing, the story of craft beer and the brewing process itself using tastings of Crate’s beers to underscore the experience.

What's Included?

  • Enjoy a 90-minute premium beer tasting for two people at CRATE Craft Beer Brewery
  • Experience an extended tasting of all CRATE’s beers paired with 'delicatessen' sharing platters of award-winning cheeses, meats, olives, pesto, breads, biscuits and more
  • Journey through the history of brewing and its process with a tour of Crate
  • Learn about how recipes are formed while sampling ingredients

Description

Situated in a former print factory, looking out onto a beautiful canal-side space and river, amidst graffiti and industrial structures, Crate Brewery is Hackney Wick's first craft brewery and pizzeria, and extremely popular with craft drinkers and diners alike. The interior has been made up with reclaimed, local and recycled materials. The actual bar was formed from railway sleepers, bed springs comprise light fittings and wooden pallets are used to create ideal tables.

Your tasting begins at the main bar, with a tour of the premises and the equipment used to brew on site. There’s interesting overview of the brewing process, their origins and the history of the area. Move onto sipping a single hop Pale Ale while your guide teaches you the fundamentals of tasting beer. You’ll also get to sample all the ingredients and discover how they are combined to create special recipes. Each tasting is coupled with platters which include cheeses, meats, olives, pesto, breads, preserves etc., all of the highest quality, chosen specifically to complement the beers. It’s an atmosphere and experience unparalleled in East End, with vibrancy of youth, art, pizza and great conversation.
