Description
Set in 300 acres of Hertfordshire countryside, The Grove Hotel is the ultimate five-star retreat. Lovingly restored, the former residence of the Earl of Clarendon is now home to an award-winning spa, championship golf course and the finest restaurants.
The illustrious history that accompanies the mansion dates back to the 1700s when the house was acquired by The Honourable Thomas Villiers, Earl of Jersey and British Ambassador to France, who became the very first Earl of Clarendon. During this time, the sprawling grounds were a favourite spot for artist George Stubbs, who visited the stables regularly to create his famous horse portraits.
The Grove was also visited by Captain Cook, who presented one of the Earls with a sapling of the newly-discovered Black Walnut Tree. This magnificent tree now towers over the terrace, beside the lounges, where you can unwind with tea and a book or a signature cocktail.
During your overnight spa experience, you’ll be greeted with a deluxe robe and some fluffy slippers to transport you directly into rest mode. You’ll then be invited to enjoy all spa facilities, including a heated pool and luxurious recliners, before indulging in a 110-minute signature treatment of your choice.
Afternoon Tea, including sandwiches, cakes and pastries, will be served in the Spa Garden room, where you’ll arrive in your robe and sip on a glass of Ayala Champagne each. Your Superior Mansion Room awaits, with a spa gift for you to take home (based on your chosen treatment). In the morning, you’ll enjoy breakfast in the Glasshouse restaurant, overlooking the beautiful gardens.
