“A truly delectable art form that anyone can master!” Vogue Magazine
Why we love it
Just like painting, sculpting, graffiti or animation, a carefully poured latte is up there as one of the world’s most interesting art forms. So much so that the World Latte Art Championship began in 2006, pitting talented baristas against one another in free pouring and etching competitions. You, too, can unleash your inner artist by learning how to present your morning coffee in style.
What's Included?
- Become a latte artist with a two-hour Latte Art Masterclass for one at Union Brew Lab
- Discover how to produce proper microfoam that will make your latte art easier and more consistent
- Understand how to steam and texture milk for silky smooth results
- Learn the foundations of latte art – pour speed, position, distance and movement
- Take home a complimentary 200g bag of Union Hand-Roasted coffee
Description
Perhaps one of the most famous and unique examples of latte art is South Korean Lee Kang-bin, who has achieved near rock star status for his creations at his Seoul shop, Café C. There, he recreates famed works like Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night using nothing more than silky smooth milk and a dash of food colouring. Each cup takes up to 15 minutes to create, as customers watch in anticipation of his next masterpiece.
The journey of latte art is a glorious one, involving creativity, fun and of course, delicious coffee that looks the part. Getting good at latte art is as much about practice as it as about learning technique, so this hands-on masterclass will enable you to try and try again as you steam and pour lots of drinks.
A professional barista will guide you through the process and offer feedback and support to refine your latte art skills as you go. You don’t need any experience to participate in the class as you’ll discover the basics and build your technique from the ground up.
During your class, you’ll learn how to produce proper microfoam that will make your latte art easier and more consistent. You’ll also discover the importance of milk quality and temperature; the foundations of latte art – pour speed, position, distance and movement and how to create different designs using these techniques.
You’ll also receive a complimentary 200g bag of Union Hand-Roasted coffee to take home and enjoy. The class is a messy one as you’ll be pouring lots of milk, including using food colouring and coffee, so it’s probably best to avoid wearing your good white shirt!
