MORE ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE

Take on the fairways of Royal St George's, with a round of two- balls golf as part of this Kent golf break. Staying in a luxury hotel for two nights, with private chauffeured transfer to and from the course, this will be a memorable golf experience for the discerning player.

Established in 1887 by Dr. Laidlaw Purves of the Royal Wimbledon Golf Club, Royal St George's was initially intended as a course on which London based golfers could escape the city's unkempt and crowded greens. Dr. Purves, though, was ambitious and wanted to create a links course that would rival St Andrews in Scotland. Royal status, bestowed by King Edward VII, acknowledged his achievements in doing so in 1902.

Renowned as one of the tougher greens on which to play golf, Royal St George's has hosted 14 Open Championships, most recently in 2011. Characterised by humps and swales, dunes and wild rough, fast-running fairways and deep bunkers, demanding carries put a premium on strong driving. Yet, even with such uncompromising terrain, properly flighted and directed shots will always find their target and leave a clear line to the green.

As part of this Kent golf break, guests will be able to play a round of two-balls on the hallowed green. Each hole is different and provides a memorable experience, the mark of a truly great course. The challenging nature of St. George's has meant that, in all its years, only four Open winners have managed to be under par after 72 holes. Meanwhile, the natural feel of the course blends beautifully into the stunning surroundings. Wild flowers and dune grasses provide a scenic backdrop, while the mellifluous sound of birdsong complements the day's play.

The club has been home to many celebrated members, including Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond novels. In fact, the famous golfing encounter in Goldfinger was set at a fictional course called Royal St Mark's - which was based upon the club Fleming called home. Many golfing legends have also graced the course, including Henry Cotton, Sandy lyle and Greg Norman.

Guests on this Royal St George's golf break will stay in a luxury hotel within the vicinity of the course, for two nights. The exact hotel will depend on booking dates. They will be treated to luxury transfer to and from the famous links course, where the day's play will take place. Guests on the break may also enjoy the famous Clubhouse between play. As soon as you enter the building, the unique atmosphere becomes apparent. Portraits of past Captains line both sides of the corridor, part of the ambience of the clubhouse which retains its original charm and character.
