MORE ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE

Dragsholm is allegedly home to 100 ghosts, including The Earl of Bothwell, and a young female spectre now named The White Lady. Built in the 12th century, the castle functioned as both a prison and a battle fortification, and some experts consider it the most haunted castle in the world.

The most terrifying of the castle's many ghost stories involves sightings of the White Lady. Before she wandered the castle halls as an apparition, the White Lady was a young woman in love with one of the castle laborers. As a member of nobility, her father condemned the relationship but he could not end it. Eventually, the father grew so angry about the ongoing affair that he had castle servants encase his daughter one of the castle walls. In 1930, while renovating the building workers found a skeleton with a white dress imprisoned in the wall. The White Lady remains in her final resting spot to this day. During your stay at Dragsholm you will experience a privately led tour of the castle and grounds, highlighting the building's often-sighted previous occupants.

Not only is Dragsholm a prime location for ghost sightings, it is also now a luxury hotel with an acclaimed gourmet kitchen. Bon Appetit magazine describes the venue as, "a starkly beautiful 13th-century castle, where the food is as dramatic as the setting." The Gourmet Menu at The Castle Kitchen is itself a reason to visit. Chef Claus Henriksen's dishes are creative and whimsical, sourcing most of the ingredients for his celebrated tasting menus from the orchards, gardens, fields, rivers, and sea surrounding the castle. After dinner you will alight the ancient staircase to a room worthy of the nobility who once resided there.
