Description
Since its disastrous collision into an iceberg in 1912, the legendary Titanic remains to be the most famous shipwreck to date. Lying 3800 meters beneath the ocean’s surface, this once “unsinkable” ship is today a treasure chest of scientific adventure, aquatic life and historical discovery. Dedicated to unearthing the ocean’s greatest mysteries, OceanGate Expeditions is at the forefront of the world’s most advanced manned submersible operations. For the first time since the ocean liner’s legendary sinkage, they’re inviting citizen explorers to accompany them on their 11-day Titanic Survey Expedition.
Your journey commences at St. John’s in Newfoundland, a large Canadian island off the east coast of the North America. Here you’ll meet the rest of your Mission Team for a pre-mission brief on the adventure that lies ahead. Enjoy dinner with your fellow crewmen and get a good night’s rest - you’re going to need it. The next day consists of an in-depth Helicopter Underwater Egress Training session. This mandatory session similar to that used by military personnel is to prepare you for your over-ocean helicopter flight to the dive site the following day.
Dawn breaks and the real adventure begins. Accompanied by your fellow eight Mission Specialists, you’ll take to the sky in a helicopter to reach the Dive Support Ship, where the the rest of your crew is waiting. Accommodating up to 50 operations crew, the Dive Support Ship is your base for the next few days, where you’ll be living and working with the rest of your crew. As a Mission Specialist, you can look forward to private living quarters, a small on-board gym, meals from the on-board chef and most importantly, an area for viewing the recorded programs and images captured during the expedition.
During your time on board, you’ll have the unique opportunity to work with the latest laser scanning, multi-beam sonar and 4K photographic technology to survey and document the shipwreck at a resolution never before seen. Working with Content Experts, your vital role is to capture data and images that are currently missing from scientific record, merging them into a revolutionary virtual 3D model of the wreck site. This is no trivial task - your contribution to the documentation of the Titanic is in essence paving the way for future underwater explorers.
The pinnacle of your adventure is a submersible 90-minute descent to the Titanic wreck herself. To reach the depths of the ocean’s floor, you’ll board Titan, the world’s only privately-owned manned submersible. Capable of reaching 4000 meters, this cutting-edge vessel has been built to withstand the enormous pressures of the ocean’s depths. Together with a trained pilot and up to three other active crew members, you'll have unparalleled views of the world’s most iconic maritime heritage site.
Spending three hours manoeuvring around the ship, marvel at some of vessel’s most historically rich landmarks - the remains of the iconic bridge, the cavern where the famous grand staircase was once located, and the massive debris field of ancient artifacts. Alternate between the live feed of Titan’s six exterior cameras, viewing your deep blue surroundings from a large digital display or on your own handheld tablet. Take photographs, alter the camera angle and document the bioluminescent aquatic life inhabiting the wreck site; afterall you have a groundbreaking mission to complete.
Before you head back to reality, enjoy a relaxed and informal post-mission briefing with your expedition crew on board the Dive Support Ship. Discuss the fascinating creatures you discovered and review the groundbreaking images, videos and sonar data you helped collect. An unforgettable scientific adventure, the Titanic Survey Expedition is your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play a part in the exploration and documentation of the world’s greatest shipwreck.
