Whilst the Crawley family is fictional, Lord and Lady Carnavon are real-life nobility that actually reside at Highclere Castle. The home is steeped in history, most notably the 5th Earl of Carnavon famously discovered the Tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922. Today the 8th Earl and Countess have opened the Egyption Exhibition in the cellars of the castle, which you are at liberty to explore.
Thereafter meander through the castle’s drawing room, dining room, library and bedrooms - where many of the Downton Abbey scenes were filmed. Channel your inner Dowager Countess, and sashay into the State Dining Room for a private dining experience.
