“The best cream tea in Edinburgh – the homemade scone is out of this world!” Evening Standard

Why we love it

The Ba' Bar (named after a traditional Orkney game), with its comfortable chairs, Chesterfield sofas and grand bay window is a cosy place to linger. The deep colours, bold wallpapers and the warm-coloured accents of oriental rugs provide a decorative link that flatters both the old and the new; you'll feel right at home at this five-star Edinburgh boutique as you unwind over afternoon tea.

What's Included?

  • Enjoy an afternoon tea for two at Ba’ Bar at The Dunstane Houses
  • Indulge in a selection of fresh sandwiches, pastries, artisan cakes and Chef's homemade scones served with clotted cream and Heather Hills Scottish preserves
  • Choose from a fine variety of whole-leaf teas from the St Andrew Tea Lover's Company (the Company's teas are served in biodegradable pyramid bags and profits are passed onto educational charities)

Description

A major six-month, six-figure renovation project was completed last summer, transforming the hotel into one of the Scottish capital’s most stylish boutique residences. Formerly a Victorian merchant’s townhouse, the three-storey main building at The Dunstane Houses dates back to the 1860s. One of the Scottish capital's most stylish, five-star boutique residences, the high ceilings and intricate plasterwork remain, but the hotel has a cosy and homely feel, while recent renovations have given its interior a modern twist.

The bar area at the centre of the hotel is beautifully appointed with plush velvet armchairs, Persian rugs and low-level lighting while the Orcadian roots of the owners, Shirley and Derek Mowat, are evident from the vintage photos displayed throughout the hotel to the subtle use of tartan and tweeds fabrics.

Afternoon tea is served in Ba’ Bar, with sunlight streaming through the beautiful bay windows. The chef’s homemade scones with clotted cream and Heather Hills Scottish preserves are top of the list, as well as an array of traditional finger sandwiches and sweet treats. Fine, whole-leaf teas from St Andrews’ Tea Lover’s Company are served throughout the experience. Tea for two anyone?
