A relaxed and intimate townhouse restaurant offering fine dining by candlelight, tucked away on St. Stephen Street. Enjoy excellent Scottish game and seafood, with ingredients that showcase local produce with classic and innovative techniques.
Low ceilings and undressed tables, ensconced in the cellar of 33 St Stephens Street in Stockbridge (the Hampstead village of Edinburgh), sits Purslane. Its rustic and relaxed atmosphere offers a casual approach to fine dining, with an emphasis firmly placed on the food. With no dress code or formality, you can expect each dish to showcase the excellent quality and flavours of its produce. Head chef Paul Gunning has put together an exquisite seven course tasting menu that will take you on a culinary journey like no other. Savour dishes such as scallops a la plancha with Jerusalem artichoke and crispy pancetta, and pan fried seabass with baby spinach, confit potatoes, celeriac and pickled kohlrabi. As you approach the end of your meal, enjoy the savoury delights of Purslane’s selection of cheese from I.J.Mellis, before being presented with a pre-dessert, and your final course. Finally, you will be given a selection of petit fours: the perfect finish.
