“The wine list is one of the finest in London” Tom Parker-Bowles, The Daily Mail

Why we love it

Named ‘Best Wine Pub of the Year 2009’ by Harpers and winner of The Independent’s ‘Best UK Wine List of the Year’, the Princess Victoria is a wine lover’s home from home; a picture-perfect setting with duck-egg blue walls, wood-burning fireplaces, antique furniture and ornate dome sky-lights. Built in 1829, the former Victorian drinking parlour boasts a stupendous 300-bin wine list centred on the best of Old and New World Pinot Noir, Riesling and Rhone Valley reds and two AA rosettes for its modern British menu.

What's Included?

  • Begin with a 125ml glass of Prosecco each
  • Taste three half glasses (85ml) of wine from the around the world
  • Finish with a 100ml taster of Oloroso each
  • Served alongside a selection of charcuterie, glacian beef, and beef dry-aged in-house

Exclusive to TRULY

  • This experience is unique to Truly guests

Description

Built in 1829, the grand corner building that houses the Princess Victoria was originally a Victorian gin palace and tram stop. Its sympathetic restoration has retained much of the original character and charm, featuring a marble-topped bar, wood-burning fireplaces, oil paintings and chandeliers; the drinking parlour has a sense of place and grandeur whilst retaining its cosy, intimate appeal.

The Princess Victoria is run by an incredibly talented trio: James McLean (former Young Chef of the Year), Nigel Sutcliffe (formerly of Heston Blumenthal’s three-Michelin star restaurant, The Fat Duck) and Jerome Armit (formerly of The Crazy Bear), alongside Head Chef Mathew Reuther, who has trained in multiple Michelin star kitchens.

More a magazine than a wine list, the Princess Victoria offers over 20 wines by the glass and their menu is a cheerful riot of quotes, jokes, facts and cartoons. As part of this tasting flight, guests will enjoy a journey through the wine world in five glasses. The experience begins with a sparkling wine, Italian Prosecco, followed by three glasses of famous varieties, from New Zealand’s Sauvignon Blanc to Argentinian Malbec. To complete the full spectrum of world wines, both guests will sample a 100ml taster of Oloroso, a variety of fortified wine made in Jerez.

The Princess Victoria boasts a ‘traditional’ kitchen, meaning that everything is made in-house from scratch. The kitchen makes its own sausages and pies, home smokes and cures fresh fish and meat, and dry-ages its own Cumbrian beef, all of which is sourced from the very best suppliers. Sample Reuther’s glacian beef and in-house dry aged beef on a platter of charcuterie, served alongside the wines.

Reviews

  • Simply perfect.

This was an absolutely amazing experience. The wine was lovely and so different to anything we had tried before. The food was outstanding. I could not rate this experience and the service at the Princess Victoria more highly. Would love to go again.
