Having originated in America in the early 1930s, tiki bars enjoyed a revival in the 1990s. In 2007, the Sugar Cane Bar opened in Clapham Junction, and its woven banana leaf walls, exotic plants and flowers, and tiki statues and cocktail mugs have delighted patrons ever since. Experience the best of the bar with three old time classic cocktails and a delicious burger or tapas meal for two.
Pacific Island hospitality, fun kitschy exotica, classic cocktails, and good, hearty food are at the core of the tiki bars such as the Sugar Cane Bar. The tiki bar first appeared in 1930s Hollywood, and they became an Americana staple over the next three decades. The brief tropical sunset that followed didn’t last long, as fans of the pop culture phenomenon inspired by Polynesia managed to stimulate a tiki bar revival in the 1990s.In 2007, the Sugar Cane Bar opened in Clapham Junction, bringing aloha leis, grinning and grimacing tiki statues and cocktail mugs, and a pirate’s cave to South London. The spot has been a firm favourite among guests who enjoy a lazy boozy lunch or a cocktail-fuelled party among lush palms, exotic blooms and adorned princes’ chairs. While we certainly enjoy shimmying the night away in as tropical an atmosphere as you’ll find in the Big Smoke, enjoying Old Time Classic Cocktails and a meal for two is a much better way to get into the Sugar Cane Bar spirit(s). You and your guest will be welcomed to this veritable paradise with colourful aloha leis. Peruse the Classic Cocktails menu before each choosing three cocktails. You’ll find tantalizing concoctions such as mojito, rum old-fashioned, tropical Bellini, daiquiri, strawberry Collins, melon breeze, and piña colada. You’ll also have the chance to enjoy a juicy burger or two tapas each. Choose Sugar Cane’s burger, a homemade veggie burger, a British beef burger, or a chicken burger. Alternatively, nibble on tapas such as vegetarian fritters, Vietnamese spring rolls, king prawns, or spicy chorizo fried with baby potatoes and fresh mint. There’s no need to head to the U.S. or a far-flung Polynesian island to enjoy a fun tiki bar atmosphere. The Sugar Cane Bar has got you covered.
