Pacific Island hospitality, fun kitschy exotica, classic cocktails, and good, hearty food are at the core of the tiki bars such as the Sugar Cane Bar. The tiki bar first appeared in 1930s Hollywood, and they became an Americana staple over the next three decades. The brief tropical sunset that followed didn’t last long, as fans of the pop culture phenomenon inspired by Polynesia managed to stimulate a tiki bar revival in the 1990s.

In 2007, the Sugar Cane Bar opened in Clapham Junction, bringing aloha leis, grinning and grimacing tiki statues and cocktail mugs, and a pirate’s cave to South London. The spot has been a firm favourite among guests who enjoy a lazy boozy lunch or a cocktail-fuelled party among lush palms, exotic blooms and adorned princes’ chairs.
