Description

From 1750 to 1850, gin had moved from being a deadly and foul drink slurped in the slums of London to something sophisticated that was quaffed in the sparkling surroundings of gin palaces.

Located in the heart of Shoreditch, on London’s ancient thoroughfare of Worship Street, Worship Street Whistling Shop celebrates those convivial and glamourous gin palaces of Victorian London.

Opening in 2011 to great critical acclaim, Worship Street Whistling Shop won Time Out London’s ‘Best New Bar’ award that same year and went on to feature in the World’s 50 Best Bars list for three consecutive years.

Whistling Shop takes a very unique approach to the art of creating great cocktails, specialising in delicious libations inspired by the past that are executed with a proficiency in cutting-edge culinary techniques, such as nitrogen stir down or rotovap liqueur. Years of in-house experimentation with flavour, multi-sensory perception and theatricality have resulted in a menu that includes gin-inspired cocktails such as the ‘Imperial Feathery Fizz’ (Tanqueray Gin, lemon, olive oil, fermented baobab, yuzu and lecithin) and the ‘Persian Slipper’ (Tanqueray No.10, Whistling Shop’s chai masala, cocchi di torino, tobacco aroma and dry aged acid).

Join one the expert bartending team at Worship Street Whistling Shop in a tasting through gin history. The experience begins with a helping of neat Genever served with bar snacks (nuts and olives) and an introduction into the fascinating world of gin. As part of the introduction, guests will handle, smell and identify a selection of traditional botanicals to better understand the distilling process.

This is followed by a flight of three premium gins made using different techniques, such as Rotovap gin, London Dry and Compound. Each gin will be accompanied by a perfectly suited tonic water to taste. Finish the experience with an innovative house cocktail, crafted using Whistling Shop’s renowned culinary wizardry.

Reviews

  • let the fun be gin.

great evening, Jas did a superb job tempting us to drink the gins and telling lots of stories and facts along the way. Good atmosphere in the basement venue , properly Victorian feel. Definitely would give this as a gift.

    Gin, nibbles, history...and chaise lounges!

The venue is accessed down cellar stairs, and is dark and bohemian. We arrived early but were welcomed inside and the bar manager Dario found our names on the list promptly and showed us to a separate booth for the gin tasting experience. Dario was well informed, humorous, and interesting explaining to us the history of gin and offering us samples. We were well looked after and I would recommend the bar for a different experience from a normal pub - more suited for couples rather than your mates. I can't speak for the value for money as the experience was a gift, but we got 10 drinks between two of us, plus nuts & olives. There is an extensive gin and whisky menu and about 15 cocktails, should you wish to continue on after the experience.

  • 1st class experience

Staff very informative and welcoming had a lovely evening have recommended already

    A lot of fun!

We thought it was a lot of fun and was very interesting.

  • Fantastic evening

Great host who was extremely informative and engaging. Great venue (I can't believe I've never heard of it before). Great Gin. Great cocktails. Well worth the money.

    All about gin

Place was great and really enjoyed the talk about history of gin and the experience etc. Only problem was we have booked a meal elsewhere and ended up having little time to enjoy the actual gin. Need to leave much more that 40 mins for the experience or explain that that doesn't include the drinks!

  • Gin Masterclass

Alejandro our bartender for the night was exceptional and answered any questions we had.

He also provided some off the cuff cocktails that's surpassed all expectations

He made a good experience into a great one

    Amazing gift idea

The setting is amazing and learning about the history of gin was very interesting. The cocktail at the end was also incredible and different from any gin cocktail i have had before
