Wrap up warm and prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. With no engine to interrupt the silence, the only sounds you’ll hear are the swoosh of the sleigh and canine yelps of joy. There truly is no better way to zip through the wilderness than on a husky sled.
Dog sledding is no longer the reserve of explorers and professional racers, it is available to everyone, young and old. Traditionally, the colder and more remote the region, the more popular the sledding. Areas above the Arctic Circle such as Alaska, Canada, Iceland, Finland, Greenland, Norway, Sweden and Russia are well-known dog-sledding destinations. However, more and more so, Scotland has become a favourite for this type of experience.
As the temperature drops and the fires are lit, thrill-seeking guests are invited to brave the winter weather for a Highland trip like no other. You’ll be able to observe the husky team being harnessed up, before jumping onto the sled or wheeled cart for a ride as a passenger. After three miles, the sled will stop for a short break to give the huskies a rest and for you to take some photos.
As a spectator, you’ll then have the opportunity to watch the dogs pull your guest on a sled, as you take in the vistas and watch the team in action. Once the huskies are back in their barn, you’ll be invited to spend some time with them, as they refresh themselves with food and water. With approximately 3 miles on a sled, taking in the beauty of nature, this could be your next big adventure!
