Three villages make up Elounda, perched above a port, looking out onto the Mediterranean Sea. Directly across is the island of Kalydon. Historically, this island was home to a fortress that protected the port of Olous from marauding pirates. In the 20th century it was used for the exile of patients suffering from Hansen’s disease (leprosy).
Nowadays, it is a remarkable site where little boats take guests across to peruse this ancient site. Also available to visit is Plaka, a fishing village whose tavernas serve fresh fish and seafood year-round.
Elounda Mare is stylish sophistication in this beautifully natural environment. - Day four: Check-out and departure home
