Description

The island of Langkawi lies adrift off the northern edge of Malaysia in the Andaman Sea. The island is blessed with millennia old limestone cliffs, dense vegetation, virgin beaches and azure waters; making it a haven for beach dwellers, sports enthusiasts, nature lovers or those simply seeking solitude.

The Datai Langkawi was awarded World Luxury Hotel's 2014 award for ‘Best Luxury Hideaway Resort’. The 124 rooms, suites and villas come equipped with Bose entertainment systems, pre-loaded iPods, silken daybeds, exclusive Plantation toiletries and private verandas that look out onto the neighbouring jungle.

Commended for its attentive and friendly service, and awarded TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice 2014 for the best in Luxury, Romance, Hotels and Service, and named 'Resort of the Year' by Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards, there is simply no better option for a luxurious Asian retreat.

Designer and architect Kelly Hill aimed to create a resort to interact with its surroundings. Trees were felled by trained elephants, and new ones planted immediately in their place, creating columns and beams that support the open and inviting spaces. Black slate welcomes delicate plant life to grow, and for friendly neighbourhood species, such as dusky leaf monkeys, to visit. Tokay geckos and Sunda flying lemurs play on the ropes and natural stone walkways. The islands’ deeply rooted heritage is illuminated by antique torches, native spears and imperial horses that guard the entrance to the lobby.

Keeping with the resorts’ aesthetics and award-winning design, the 18-hole, par-72 Championship Golf Course incorporates the natural landscape, trading bunkers for natural hazards. Designed by 4-time Major winner Ernie Els, the course has been bestowed the title of ‘World’s Best New Golf Course’ at the World Golf Awards 2014. GPS equipped buggies, personalised and engraved bag tags and professional golf lessons from Troon Golf instructors ensures the most sophisticated golfing experience anywhere in the world.

Morning and after dark rainforest walks will be led by the internationally renowned resident Naturalist, Irshad Mobarak. Bringing to life the mysteries of the ancient rainforest, you’ll get up close and personal with rare and exotic wildlife. Trek through the jungle with a local medicine man and learn about the potent jungle plants that have been used for thousands of years by local healers and shamans. Explore mysterious caves, mesmerising waterfalls and a labyrinth of secret mangrove water channels, and even enjoy a refreshing swim in the gentle jungle stream.

A sunset cruise aboard the Naga Pelangi rounds off this spectacular getaway and showcases the beauty of Langkawi’s maritime heritage. The Naga Pelgani, ‘Rainbow Dragon’, is a 97-foot, hand-built traditional wooden schooner. The leisurely and romantic affair brings the exceptional Datai Langkawi service to the sea, with delicious Malay cuisine, sumptuous beverages and on-board massages.
