The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, is one of nature’s greatest displays. An enigmatic, multi-coloured spectacle in which the night sky is lit up with an otherworldly, swirling glow.
Be whisked away in Super-Jeep by a private tour guide from outside the hotel and begin the hunt for the Northern Lights. During the tour, explore a lava cave under the Blue Mountains and discover the marvels of the remains of the last volcanic explosion, be treated to a seafood dinner at one of the region’s best restaurants, located 60km outside Reykjavik, and journey deep into the mountains to chase the elusive Aurora Borealis.
On another day, enjoy a snorkelling adventure to the Silfra Lava Fissure. Located in the centre of Þingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland, Silfra contains such crisp, clear, water that attracts travellers from across the globe. The visibility here reaches end-of-sight and is rated at 150 to 300 meters. The water travels from the melting glacier, through a lava field and, by the time it reaches the lake, it is almost 100 years old and is completely drinkable. Often cited in “Top 3 Diving Location” lists; at Silfra, divers literally swim between a rift in the continental plates.
While in Reykjavik, savour a tasting menu dinner at the leading restaurant Fiskmarkaðurinn. Overseen by Head Chef Hrefna Rósa Sætran of the Icelandic National Culinary team, the restaurant conjures a unique dining experience by combining Asian influences with local Icelandic produce, such as king crab claws.
