Why we love it

Tocqueville is an icon of New York fine dining, with a menu heavily inspired by its proximity to the market-fresh ingredients found Union Square Greenmarket. Tocqueville promotes seasonality, endorsing the use of local produce, and chef-owner Marco Moreira's creative dishes feature rich American flavors balanced with French sensibility.

Description

The jewel of Flatiron, Tocqueville has enjoyed success since opening its doors in 2000. Known for warm, efficient service and a creative, vibrant kitchen, it's Tocqueville's strong relationship with Union Square Greenmarket, just metres away from the restaurants front door, that ensures the procurement of crisp, flavorsome produce, mouth-watering meats and rich seafood.

Arriving in New York in the 80's, Brazilian-born chef-owner Marco Moreira promotes the use of seasonally ripe and local, market-fresh produce. Earning a reputation for being a technically gifted and highly professional chef during the New York sushi craze, Marco then launched his own venture, Marco Polo Catering, and soon after met wife and business partner Jo-Ann Makovitzky. Tocqueville was the restaurant power couple's first adventure together and has been a resounding success, earning 27/30 for food on Zagat and two stars from The New York Times.

Visiting for Chef Marco's specially prepared five-course lunch menu, you will enjoy dishes that fuse the spirit and inventiveness of American cuisine with European sensibility, using hand-selected ingredients from nearby Union Square Greenmarket. Dishes range from the deep, ocean sweetness of Californian Sea Urchin balanced with delicate Angel Hair Carbonara to the rich, bold flavor of House Cured Terrine of Hudson Valley Foie Gras that's teamed with buttery and light toasted brioche. Each dish is a testament to the restaurant’s global inspiration and heavy seasonal influence.

Meanwhile, Tocqueville maintains an impressive wine list, curated by Roger Dagorn. Dagorn’s wealth of experience in New York, his incomparable palate and never-floundering dedication to his craft has led him to become a Master Sommelier, one of only 200 worldwide. Tocqueville’s wine list has won Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2002, and more recently was named in America’s 100 Best Wine Restaurants by Wine Enthusiast in 2014.
