Description

Should it need any introduction, it has come into common appreciation that the American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's biggest and most famous museums. TimeOut says it’s hard to explore the American Museum of Natural History without being awestruck.

The AMNH's doors might typically open everyday at 10am, but you can gain exclusive first-choice tickets, allowing your group private access to the museum an hour before the general public. Starting at 9am, you will be personally toured around the museum's halls by a resident expert.

Among other items of interest, you'll stand beneath largest animal that ever lived; a blue whale that measures in at 94 feet in length, and that now hangs from the ceiling of the Hall of Ocean Life. A skeleton of a 11,000-year old fully-grown mammoth dominates the Hall of Advanced Mammals, under which solemnly lies the almost complete remains of a baby mammoth. And then of course there's the rather intimidating T-Rex: a real fossil excavated in 1908 that sports 6-inch teeth and a jaw 4ft long.

After your hour-long tour has concluded, you'll be led to the Hayden Planetarium Space Theater (if you can imagine it, an 87-foot-diameter spherical screen) where you will be pre-seated for the Space Show before any other visitors. The current film, named Dark Universe, is an exploration of the history of the universe and our place in it. The movie is powerful and grand in scope, often leaving those who have experienced it feeling a little bit small.

While the tour you embark on will feature a fraction of the 30 million artifacts housed at ANMH, you'll have the rest of the day, and full unrestricted access, to explore the larger extent of the exhibits at your own leisure.
