Description

Brighton is Britain’s most eccentric city, and one with many faces. Begin the weekend examining Brighton's history, with a privately guided tour of the Royal Pavilion. Go behind-the-scenes at the wonderful seaside pleasure palace, and discover the story of this 200 year old icon.

Once a modest 18th century lodging house, the neo-classical Marine Pavilion was transformed by King George, along with the help of architect John Nash. Completed in 1823, the redesign stands as a reminder of how the king kick-started Brighton’s enduring love of the exotic and outlandish.

On "A Closer Look" tour, the Royal Pavilion's experts will transport you back to the time when the king was holding his impressive banquets, gaining a glimpse of the social history, the architecture and the decorative art of the Royal Pavilion.

After your tour, enjoy a four-course meal at Britain's first zero waste restaurant, Silo. Head Chef Douglas McMaster, the former BBC Young Chef of the Year, spent time at St John's and Noma and now heads up the kitchen at Silo. Using pre-industrialised food system techniques, Silo has eliminated the production of waste. Sourcing local produce, using up-cycled fixtures and fittings, composting all the scraps and trimmings, and even emailing bills rather than printing, the restaurant earns its claim of being the most sustainable restaurant in Britain. The wine list, too, celebrates natural, local wines complemented by an onsite botanical brewery.

In line with eco-friendly dining, Silo welcomes all diners - vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians and carnivores. Choose a seasonal four-course menu, based on plant, dairy, fish or meat diets. As TRULY guests, you’ll also receive a complimentary glass of the house-made Apple and Elderflower Ebulis 'champagne' each.
