Description

Simon Hulstone, chef proprietor at The Elephant, is an award winning chef with a talent for using home-grown, seasonal produce to create unforgettable flavours. Since the age of 16 he has been placing in international cooking competitions, twice in the world’s most prestigious the Bocuse d’Or. Among many of his accolades, he is regarded as the only British chef ever to win gold at the World Chef Championships in France. He attributes much of his success to the skills he learned from Britains most respected chefs, including his father, Roger.

Simon’s passion for local ingredients and finesse with flavour is bolstered by the restaurants private 90-acre farm. The Elephant’s menu is a celebration of the finest British ingredients, “all hand-reared and grown on the farm.” The immaculately-presented menu continues to win praise from critics. The Elephant restaurant has held three AA rosettes, and Simon and his team won Torquay its first Michelin star.

Simon notes, “A good kitchen can only work with truly great producers and we are lucky enough in the South West to have the best.” The menu uses the best of Devon’s larder; Paignton crab with spring pea pannacotta and Heritage beetroots, Vulscombe goat’s cheese, pickled mustard seed, winter truffle.

The Elephant offers fine food and sensational views overlooking Torbay Harbour. Spectacular scenery, a laid back atmosphere and sensational seaside cuisine make the trip to Torquay well worth it.
