Why we love it

Designed during the 1980s by Frank Robinson and his staff of engineers, the R44 first flew on 31 March 1990. Since then, it has received numerous modifications and continues to rival other helicopters with its title of ‘The top piston helicopter available’. With four seats, this helicopter offers you and two friends an opportunity to co-pilot whilst admiring some of London’s most iconic landmarks.

What's Included?

  • Enjoy a group day out with a 40-minute flight in a Robinson R44 helicopter for up to three people
  • Get to grips with all aspects of helicopter flight, including how to operate the controls and what happens at take- off and landing
  • Take the controls and fly the helicopter yourself if you’re seated at the front
  • Try out the Crew Cams and take videos and photos of your flight, which you can purchase
  • Log your 40-minutes flying time in your log book with your Instructor if you are training, or plan to train, towards your PPL(H)

Description

R44 helicopters are notoriously high performing, reliable and easy to maintain. They have a two-bladed rotor system, T-bar cyclic and the latest in Robinson technology, including streamlined instrument panels and crashworthy bladder fuel tanks. Hydraulic controls eliminate feedback forces and provide responsive handling. This means that learning to fly one of these helicopters is both exciting and fun.

If you’ve always wanted to learn to fly a helicopter, or simply enjoy the adrenaline rush of something adventurous, here is your chance. Piloting your own aircraft is no easy feat, but with the expert guidance of the professional instructors at Elstree Helicopters, you and two friends have the opportunity to co-pilot a flight.

After a comprehensive briefing, including safety checks, ground and airborne emergency drills, you’ll then be shown how to operate the dual controls of the helicopter. As a co-pilot, you’ll be responsible for knowing and communicating who has control, as well as the location of other aircraft in the sky.

Before taking flight, you’ll have a photo opportunity in the helicopter with your friends. You’ll then meet your instructor and take your seats. Expect a vertical take-off, panoramic views of the city and the opportunity to take the controls for the person at the front. Whilst flying over the countryside, you’ll see some of Hertfordshire as well London sights such as the Olympic Stadium, ArcelorMittal Orbit and the Shard.

Once back on the ground, you’ll receive a certificate of achievement and have the opportunity to purchase your photos or personalised in-flight footage of your lesson.
