Description

For the owners of Hoo Farm, a log cabin was always part of the plan. After an encounter on a ranch in the Bear Tooth Mountain range on the edge of the Rocky Mountains, they fell in love with the idea of hand-crafted whole logs and the beauty and warmth of the building. So much so, that in the summer of 2015, they built their very own woodland hideaway.

The trees used are Western Red Cedar, estimated to be about 50 years old, as well as 150 trees from a sustainable forest in the south of England. The cabin had to be built in the yard and was then dismantled and delivered to Badger’s Wood on several large lorries. With cranes, hoists and ladders the cabin was re-erected log by log and the roof was then attached. A labour of love, this project certainly was.

During your Overnight Break at Badger’s Wood, you’ll spend the evening in Radjels Retreat, one of the log cabins nestled in the extensive wooded garden, with access to a large decked area, private barbecue and outdoor hot tub. The following day, you’ll have the opportunity to visit Hoo Farm, a family-run countryside attraction nestled in 32 acres of woodland and paddocks. The farm itself is possibly 200 years old and, over the years has been a dairy farm, Christmas tree nursery and an award-winning attraction.

As a keeper for the day, you’ll be under the expert guidance of a professional, who will take you on a tour of the farm and then invite you to help with the cleaning of the small animals and hands-on demonstrations. You’ll also get to meet Oscar the European eagle owl, Bear the raccoon and Hoo Farm's hand-reared meerkats. Working up an appetite, you’ll no doubt be ready for a delicious lunch, all included as part of the experience.
