Description

The National Gallery invites you to a private lecture tailored to your party's artistic tastes, at the home of the largest collection of modern European art in the Western world. Choose the theme of the lecture, whether your interests lie in the classic or contemporary, and be inspired by the knowledgable National Gallery art historians.

The National Gallery was built by renowned English architect, William Wilkins, over the former site of the King's Mews. Using much of the original Romanesque style of the building, the dense, arched columns at the grand entrance lend themselves to the imposing structure showcased at Trafalgar Square since 1838. 38 pieces from the museum's original collection still adorn the Gallery walls, including the famous The Raising of Lazarus (c.1518) by Sebastiano del Piombo.

This is a fantastic opportunity to enrich your knowledge of classic works of the Western world, on a thematic level. You will be able to choose from a range of themes, allowing full access to your party of the appropriate pieces. Suggested themes include, but are not limited to: Baroque to Rococo, Impressionism, The Development of Portraiture, Narrative Paintings, Symbolism, Women in Art, and more. When booking your talk, The National Gallery will be able to curate the perfect lecture for you, and select an appropriate historian to best enhance your experience. Enjoy getting to know important works in the collection, beyond viewing them on gallery walls.

Before or after your tour, indulge in a three-course lunch in the private dining room at The Square. Until 2016, Chef Patron Philip Howard had been at the helm of this esteemed for 25 years, producing expertly prepared modern French cuisine using seasonal ingredients.

Now under the stewardship of the world-renowned MARC restaurant group - the team behind fellow Mayfair double michelin-starred restaurants Umu and The Greenhouse - The Square is once again the most talked-about restaurant in London. MARC ensures Howard's legacy will remain intact, providing the same exquisite food, friendly service and down-to-earth atmosphere.
