“The Princess Victoria makes me want to jump for joy” Terry Durack, The Independent

Why we love it

Built in 1892, the Princess Victoria was originally a Victorian gin palace and tram stop. Restored to its former glory, with duck-egg blue walls, wood-burning fireplaces, antique furniture and ornate dome sky-lights, the Princes Victoria is a picture-perfect setting to step back in time and enjoy a tasting flight of the most quintessential of British drinks, London Dry Gin. The ideal introduction to an iconic spirit in a charming and characterful location.

What's Included?

  • Enjoy a signature house gin martini each on arrival
  • Savour a tasting flight of three London Dry gins, served in 25ml portions
  • Sample gins such as ‘Rives London Dry’, ‘Sipsmith London Dry’ and ‘Bombay Sapphire’
  • Served alongside three bar snacks, including the iconic Tamworth Scotch egg

Exclusive to TRULY

  • This experience is unique to Truly guests

Description

The Princess Victoria is a magnificently restored Gin Palace fit with glittering chandeliers, ornate mirrors, a solid wood floor and a marble topped bar. The building exudes old-world grandeur but with an intimate and cosy charm.

Head Chef Mathew Reuther has worked in multiple Michelin star kitchens, most recently at longstanding City favourite, 1 Lombard Street. In 2008, the newly opened Princess Victoria was named Time Out’s ‘Best New Gastropub 2008’, going on to win ‘Newcomer of the Year’ in the Top 30 Gastropubs 2009 awards.

The menu highlights a love of all juniper based spirits, with an extensive menu of 57 gins and gin-inspired cocktails. On arrival, enjoy a signature gin martini “served with a twist and stirred to perfection”, followed by a tasting flight of three London Dry gins. Sample gins such as Rives London Dry, newcomer Sipsmith London Dry and the iconic Bombay Sapphire.

The ‘Mother’s Ruin’ will be served alongside three bar snacks, including the iconic Tamworth Scotch egg. The Princess Victoria boasts a ‘traditional’ kitchen, meaning that everything is made in-house from scratch. The kitchen makes its own sausages and pies, home-smokes and cures fresh fish and meat, and dry-ages its own Cumbrian beef, all of which is sourced from the very best suppliers.

Reviews

  • Great afternoon in a great pub

Overall we really enjoyed the gin tasting experience. The gin master was knowledgable and on hand to answer all of our questions - he also provided the final gin based on our personal taste which was great. The bar snacks were provided promptly into the session which was great, but we weren't asked about any dietary requirements and the snacks weren't all to our taste - albeit we recognised that they were very good dishes, if you liked them.

    Wonderful experience

Wonderful location, with great gin and food and passionate staff!

  • Ginteresting

It was such a fun evening, the pub's manager was really informative and the gins were great. Lots of food arrived - more than just bar snacks!

    Delightful

Lovely selection of 4 gin & tonics, our host was friendly and knowledgeable. What came as a pleasant extra was the delicious starters that went with it! Possibly the best scotch egg I've ever had, though it might be the gin talking.
