Description

Hairdressing always came natural to Alex Brownsell, who grew up around her mother’s salon in the Midlands. At age 16 she moved to London to take up an apprenticeship. It was here she began experimenting with colours and styles; eventually leading to the birth and improbable rise of Bleach London. Teaming up up with best friend Sam Teasdale, the pair started out with a two-chair pop-up dive bar hair shop in Dalston. Five years on, the duo have three London salons, and Brownsell, who styles herself the “Follicle Oracle”, has a huge following among young women looking for the next colour to experiment with.

Their newest salon, in Soho's Berwick Street, is more modern than the original; but still captures the youth, fun and rebelliousness which pulls Bleach apart from the crowd. Interior designer David White is responsible for the open-plan, industrial-style building; with exposed piping, concrete floors, white washed walls, and a colour-mixing dispensary which doubles up as a bar. It’s little wonder TimeOut has singled out Bleach as “London's Coolest Salon".

Alex's journey has built her a reputation as a style pioneer, "almost single-handedly responsible for the capital’s en-masse adoption of rainbow-tinted tips", according to The Standard. Naturally, the celebs have come flocking. Amongst Alex's best-known work is Lily Allen’s much-discussed ‘watermelon hair’ and Georgia May Jagger’s multi-coloured do. On a daily basis, her salon bustles with fashion-forward clients having their locks transformed into ‘MyLittle Pony manes’ of pastel-hued hair.

With TRULY you can experience the Bleach phenomena like few others; enjoying an exclusive private session with Alex herself. Visiting the chic Berwick Street salon, work with Alex on any colour service and cut of your choice; who'll give you the A-list treatment for as long as needed, be it three hours or five hours. To top off your experience, take home a complimentary set of Bleach products, including shampoo, conditioner and colour.
