“This was like living my dream! I would recommend this experience to anyone who loves flying and is interested in British history.” Into The Blue

Why we love it

Move over Maverick, the new Goose is on the loose! Not only on the set of Top Gun do pilots get to tuck, duck, dip and dive. Now, you could also experience what it would have been like to fly the infamous Spitfire. As one of only two venues in the UK with a Spitfire simulator, Warwickshire Flight Experience replicates the exact control panels and instrumentation of a WW2 Spitfire, including the Joystick. Prepare for a joyride to remember!

What's Included?

  • Step into the cockpit of a Spitfire simulator and discover what it’s like to pilot this WW2 aircraft
  • Enjoy one hour of simulated flight time, with full instrumentation and a realistic control column, including the famous ‘Joystick’
  • Experience flying over the fields of southern England during the Battle of Britain
  • Try out the firing button on the simulated machine guns
  • Attempt some aerobatics such as rolls and loops

Description

Swooping through the skies, taking full control of a great airborne machine, the rush is almost palpable. Warwickshire Flight Experience Spitfire simulator is a direct replica of the cockpit found on this aircraft and its visual presentation system, including controls and instrument panels, are realistically imitated, providing you with the unique opportunity to experience what it would be like to pilot this plane.

After a comprehensive briefing, including safety checks and aircraft information, you’ll then be shown how to operate the plane. As a pilot, you will take over the controls and fly the Spitfire, truly getting a feel of what it means to be a pilot. You’ll handle the controls from take-off to landing, guided by experienced instructors.

Your Spitfire session will start with a short period of ‘free flight’ as you familiarise yourself with the controls, after which you will fly low: hedge hopping over the countryside. Once you’re used to the manoeuvring of the plane, you’ll be invited to try out some aerobatics, performing dips, dives, rolls and even loops. You’ll even experience what it feels like to fly upside down over Dover.

After all the excitement, you’ll have the opportunity to peruse the streets of London, spotting the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, The Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, and Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square. If you have the nerve, you can even try to fly through Tower Bridge.

Building up some courage, you’ll then get to take on the starring role as a fighter pilot, discovering the historic air defence of England against German bombers. With a firing button on the machine guns, this one’s not for the faint-hearted!
