Description

Located at 18 Folgate Street, Spitalfields, Dennis Severs' House is the brainchild of eccentric designer and performer, Dennis Severs. Built in 1724, the red-brick Georgian terraced house has been transformed by Severs into a 'living theatre' of what life would have been like in the 18th century for a family of Huguenot silk weavers named Jervis. More encapsulated with the Georgian era than with his own, Severs lived in the house until 1999 the same way as his imagined inhabitants would have, without electricity.

During your Silent Night Tour, a guide will lead you on a quiet candle-lit walk through the creaky house’s ten rooms. Along the way, you’ll discover sensory clues of the Jervis family and why they had to suddenly flee the house. A creaky floorboard, the warmth of a fire, the smell of something cooking in the kitchen - everything is a sensory clue that will ignite your imagination. Be careful not to miss anything - the motto of the house is Aut Visum Aut Non!: "You either see it or you don't!"

Less than 400 feet away lies Galvin La Chapelle, one of London's top restaurants and your lunch destination for the day. The third venture from illustrious chef brothers, Chris and Jeff Galvin, the fine dining French restaurant in Spital Square was awarded a Michelin star just one year after opening. In addition to its warm, friendly service and phenomenal French cuisine, the restaurant is renown for its impressive Victorian interiors, inspired by the former Victorian chapel in which it is housed.

To begin the luxury experience, enjoy a complimentary glass of Brut upon arrival. Amongst medieval-style chandeliers, lofty stone ceilings and statuesque pillars, indulge in a masterfully curated seven-course menu gourmand. The food is a translation of the Galvin brother’s passion for honest, defined gastronomy, using the best of British produce to produce decadent French bistro cuisine. Another sensory experience to finish an unforgettable afternoon in London’s spirited Spitalfields.
