“What an amazing experience! Managed to take all three controls at the same time.” Matt Sim
Why we love it
The R22 trial lesson provides the perfect opportunity to co-pilot a helicopter in flight. With multiple controls to work with, the flight typically starts with upper air exercises, before focusing on low level manoeuvres such as the hover. You’ll learn how to manipulate the controls at the same time, encouraging your metal beast to listen as you make all the moves.
What's Included?
- Discover what it’s like to fly a Robinson R22 helicopter with a hands-on 30-minute lesson for one with Phoenix Helicopters in either Surrey or Hampshire

- Take the controls and fly the helicopter yourself during your 30-minute flight
- Log your 30-minutes flying time in your log book with your instructor if you are training, or plan to train, towards your PPL(H)
- Receive a certificate of achievement at the end of your flight
Description
Piloting your own aircraft is no easy feat, but with the expert guidance and mentorship of the professional pilots at Phoenix Helicopters, you have the opportunity to co-pilot a Robinson R22. If you’ve always wanted to learn to fly a helicopter, or simply enjoy the adrenaline rush of something adventurous, here is your chance.
Take to the skies in this 30-minute lesson with the chance to fly the helicopter yourself. The R22 trial lesson is a great way to get an idea of what it’s like to take control of a helicopter in flight. Starting you off on your pilot journey, you’ll receive a comprehensive briefing, including safety checks, ground and airborne emergency drills.
Operation of the helicopter happens through multiple controls which you will be shown how to manoeuvre and operate, as this is something you will get to do during your 30-minute flying lesson.
The lesson typically starts with upper air handling, before focusing on low level exercises such as the hover. Students are given each control individually before combining multiple controls.
Once back on the ground, you’ll receive a certificate of achievement and post-flight debrief followed by the chance to ask any further questions about your experience. You’ll also have the opportunity to log your 30-minutes flying time in your log book with your instructor if you are training, or plan to train, towards your PPL(H).
