Just like many great wineries in Nashville TN, Grinder’s Switch is a family-run establishment. Owners Joey and Gail Chessor now oversee a 7 acre vineyard, a large tank room and – as of 2015 – a satellite branch in downtown Nashville. Out of the ten tons of grapes harvested by the winery, winemakers have produced an array of dry, off-dry, sweet and semi-sweet wines, including their Barrel Select, Vidal Blanc, Ivory Mist, Blackberry Express and Chardonnay. The winery was also named one of The South’s Best Vineyards by Southern Living.

Opening times:

  • Open seven days a week
  • Sunday: 12pm – 5pm
  • Monday to Thursday: 10am – 5pm
  • Friday and Saturday: 10am – 6pm

Guests can enjoy wine tasting at the original location, as well as visiting the vineyard itself. You can also buy wine-themed gifts and other products at the tasting room, and the surrounding lawns are perfect for casual picnics. The branch in Nashville itself also offers daily tastings, as well as gifts.

Grinder’s Switch has a number of wine clubs, granting perks such as discounts on wines, complimentary tastings, and access to members-only events. The original farm has an event room that holds up to 50 people.

Amber Falls is a well-established winery owned by Judy and Tim Zaunbrecher. The property was bought in 2003 and by 2005 the first grapes – Chardonnay and Seyval Blanc – were planted. The tasting room at the vineyard was opened in 2008 and, since then, Amber Falls has produced award-winning wines that have featured in the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition. Its satellite stall and tasting room in the Opry Mills Mall in Nashville opened in 2019, but wine enthusiasts can still visit the vineyards in Hampshire, Tennessee and enjoy the Amber Falls wine in the original cellar.

Opening times for Tasting Room in Nashville:

  • Monday to Thursday: 10am – 7pm
  • Friday & Saturday: 10am – 8pm
  • Sunday: 12pm – 6pm

Just like most of the best wineries, Natchez Hills is family-owned and run. Jim and Karen Odom founded the vineyard in Tennessee with the goal of creating a wine haven where visitors can relax and enjoy a sense of community while they sample the winery’s wares. They use “Old-World” techniques to ferment their grape, and are constantly driving towards more sustainable farming practices.

Belle Meade wasn’t always a winery. Until 2009 it existed mainly as a breeding farm for American Thoroughbred horses which played host to many notable politicians and tycoons. Now the winery produces wines of all kinds and aims to be “a monument to Southern culture”. Guests can partake in a number of activities, including the standard wine tasting, tours around the vineyards, wine and food pairings and private gatherings.
