Mother’s Day is coming up quickly! Mum deserves a treat on this special day, and we’ve put together some lovely, unique ideas to spoil her.
1- Indulge her crafty side
For the crafty mum, perhaps a private session with one of Britain’s leading origami artists? Sam Tsang will lead each workshop focused on a theme of your choosing. Some popular themes include: Mindfulness (using origami as a relaxation and meditation aid), Collaboration (creating modular origami as a group) and Education (model making with facts about origami used in history, maths, science and fashion). Perhaps you’ll want to join your mother on the workshop, and learn to make her an origami flower as a special hand made gift?
2- Better than a bouquet
Rather than simply sending mum a bouquet of flowers this year, we suggest learning how to arrange your own bouquets! And for the best flower arranging course, seek out the ‘Queen of Florists’: Philippa Craddock. Craddock has produced stunning displays for Jo Malone and Tiffany & Co. among many others. Enjoy a day long class at her East Sussex countryside studio, complete with a delicious spread of tea and cakes from an Ottolenghi-trained chef.
3- Tour the gardens
If your mum would rather get outside this Mother’s Day, maybe you should take her on a private guided garden tour? At Kew Gardens, you’ll be immersed in the beauty and history of a recognised UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the largest global collection of living plants, and take in exceptional exhibits such as The Great Pagoda and the Xstrata Treetop Walkway. Before or after your tour, enjoy a meal at the nearby Michelin-starred The Glasshouse restaurant.
4- Properly pamper her
Mothers work hard, and they all deserve the gift of relaxation. London has a wide range of great luxury spas. The Dorchester has an indulgent 60-minute aromatherapy facial, set in one of the most iconic hotels in the world. She’ll be able to enjoy full access to the spa’s steam and relaxation facilities, as well as the luxurious 1930’s Art Deco inspired surroundings. She’s sure to be grateful, as her physical, mental and emotional wellbeing is enhanced!
5- For ladies who Lunch
Spend some quality with mum over lunch. We suggest this three-course lunch at Spring, located in one of the most beautiful institutions in England – Somerset House. The dishes, by acclaimed chef Skye Gyngell, are wholesome and fresh produce-driven. Enjoy a perfect afternoon overlooking the Thames and sampling courses such as mackerel with fern verrow cauliflower, crème fraîche and saffron, or spiced rubbed quail with sweet potato and salmoriglio.
6- Cheers to Mum
After raising you, mum probably needs a drink. What about a wine tasting? How about a premium, private wine tasting at London Bridge wine merchant, Bedales? Led by an in-house wine expert, you’ll try four premium Pinot Noir wines ranging from sparkling to red. And so you don’t walk away hungry, the wines will be paired with a seasonal mixed board of cheese and meats.
7- Treat her to Tea
For a traditional, and all-around lovely experience, treat mum to afternoon tea. The Rosebery Lounge at the opulent Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park has an appointed Tea Master, who has created an extensive menu of the finest tea blends from around the world. Enjoy your choice of tea from the ‘Rare & Limited Tea’ list and a selection of delicious savoury sandwiches and sweet treats such as passion fruit tarts and madeleines. And after tea, perhaps go for a spot of shopping?
