Top 5 Action Holidays in Europe

There are two different types of travellers – those who love to go on holiday so that they can relax – lounging by the pool, enjoying  cocktails – and those who go on holiday in order to challenge themselves with a series of exciting outdoor activities.

If you are the second type of traveller, you are probably constantly looking for new and thrilling activities that you can enjoy on your next adventure. There are plenty of amazing outdoor experiences all across Europe to enjoy, so here are some ideas for great action holidays:

1.      Paragliding at Lake Bled, Slovenia

Lake Bled is a picturesque emerald-green lake surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the Julian Alps, with a beautiful church on an island in the centre of it – one of the most scenic places in Europe. There are plenty of great outdoor activities to enjoy here including swimming, hiking, white water rafting and boating. The boldest adventure seekers try paragliding from Mount Vogel, which will give you an incredible view of the area.

2.      Road Cycling in Mallorca

Feel the wind in your hair as you speed down the rolling hills and flat coastal roads of beautiful Mallorca. 3.      Hiking in the Scottish Highlands

The rugged and remote landscapes of the Scottish Highlands are just waiting to be explored, so strap on your hiking boots and get out there! You could traverse the West Highland Way, or visit the Trossachs National Park. Or, if you are really feeling adventurous you could attempt to climb Ben Nevis – the highest mountain in the British Isles at a staggering 1,344 metres. Its name translates to “mountain of Heaven” or “mountain with its head in the clouds”.

4.      Golfing in Cyprus

This Mediterranean island is becoming a popular golfing destination, as it offers the world renowned Aphrodite Hills course. This championship course was designed by Cabell Robinson and offers 18 holes with incredible views of the sea. You can also perfect your stroke at the Aphrodite Hills Tennis Academy, which offers classes and private lessons with expert golf coaches.

5.      Pack Rafting in Finland

Why not take an adventure through the wilderness of Finland and give the sport of pack rafting a try. It involves rafting down rivers on lightweight inflatable boats that you can fold into your backpack as you hike to the next river. There are beginner courses available that will show you the basics and guide you through rafting and wild camping.

These are just a few of the best action holidays in Europe, so make sure you pack your sense of adventure on your next trip!
