Five Minutes with Suze the Luxury Columnist

Since she started a blog to keep in touch with friends, Suze – aka Luxury Columnist, has gone on to become one of the leading luxury lifestyle bloggers in the world. We caught up with her to find out about her definition of luxury, and some of her favourite tips.

What does luxury mean to you?

Luxury means many things to me – it could be a time-saving product or a truly personalised experience with a “money can’t buy” aspect, like tickets to a fashion show and a backstage chat with the designer afterwards.

Tell us about what you believe makes a luxury brand.

A successful luxury brand understands all about the relationship between the product and the consumer. It’s no longer enough to sell an expensive product, these days clients want to feel engaged with a brand. An excellent example of this is Burberry with their Art of the Trench campaign, where their customers were encouraged to share a photo of themselves wearing the trench on social media.

You travel a lot. What’s the destination that’s most stood out to you this year?

So far, it has been Italy. I became reacquainted with Rome recently and recommend the view from the Villa Medici. I’m looking forward to visiting the Amalfi Coast, also in Italy, and Bali later in the year.

If you had one afternoon in London, where would you spend it?

Provided the sun was out, having a picnic in one of the amazing parks like Hyde Park, then walking around the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion. This year it’s designed by Selgascano Studio and it’s not to be missed.

Where are your favourite dining destinations in the capital?

I like the traditional glamour of London hotels, from the Michelin starred experience of William Drabble at the St James’s Hotel and Club to the buzz of the lobby bar in One Aldwych. I also have a soft spot for high rise restaurants like Darwin at The Sky Gardens, for one of the best views in town.

Tell us some of your favourite hidden gem destinations in London.

In London, make sure to visit some of the speakeasies and quirky bars like the Zetter Townhouse, they sum up British eccentricity!
