While brunch may be the trendiest meal, let’s not overlook the importance of a great lunch. Whether it’s a midday treat that gets you through your workday, an excuse to catch up with old friends, or a leisurely meal running well into the afternoon, finding the perfect lunch spot can be a pleasure. Being spoilt for choice in London, here are a few of our favourites:
1- French Favourites at Club Gascon
With rave reviews and a Michelin star under its belt, Club Gascon brings a taste of southwest France to the streets of Farringdon. With the seasonal menu designed by award-winning Chef Pascal Assignac, you can expect dishes made from the best fresh produce. Some of the highlights include pressed duck foie gras and squirrel (?!), seared king scallop with tea smoked beetroot, and rhubarb cannelloni with vanilla parfait for dessert. Bon appétit!
2- Restaurant Story
Using food to tell tales, Michelin-starred Restaurant Story is the result of chef Tom Sellers’ imagination and devotion to British food. Diners are taken on a sensory journey, sampling flavours inspired by the classics – such as bread and drippings, tender cuts of lamb served with salad, and a selection of wine and British craft ales. Lunch is served Tuesday to Saturday, 12pm to 2pm – tables get snapped up fast so make sure you book in advance!
4- Ceviche at Andina
Serving up Peruvian ceviche, street food, grills and superfood salads, Andina is great for something a little different. The ceviche is a must-try, with dishes like melt-in-the-mouth yellowfin tuna with rocoto tiger’s milk, pickled pineapple and black quinoa. There’s also a variety of delicious cocktails on offer including the famous Pisco Sour made with pisco (a popular Peruvian spirit), lime juice, sugar syrup, egg white and Peruvian bitters. Lunch is served from 11:30am – 2:30pm every day – we’ll see you there!
5- Japanese at Kouzu
Kouzu is set over three levels and offers an impressive Japanese dining experience. Winner of the ‘Global Sushi Challenge’ in 2015, Chef Jia Tian Xia prides himself on serving some the best sushi that London has to offer. Kouzu is open for lunch Monday to Friday, 12pm to 2.30pm – you can expect to sample mouth-watering dishes such as miso-marinated black cod served with black sesame rice, an assortment of sushi including soft shell crab Makimono rolls, and sliced yellowtail sashimi with truffle oil dressing. If you’re up for it, you can even try your hand at sushi making, with cocktails to pair!
6- British favourites at Hix
Found in the heart of Soho, Hix is a modern bistro that takes British food very seriously. Kick things off with a selection of oysters, before indulging in Dorset blue lobster or a Glenarm hanger steak. Finish up with Norfolk treacle tart. Lunch is served from 11:30am and with a seasonal menu which changes every week, this place is definitely worth a repeat visit. Also look out for Damien Hirst’s artwork which can be found hanging from the ceiling!
