Guide To Howlite: All About Its Benefits And Everyday Uses

The howlite stone is not a gemstone that many people know by name and it’s perhaps best known as an imitation stone. This stone is unique from other gems as it can be dyed plenty of different colours to make it look like other semi-precious stones.

While howlite may be inexpensive, it has a whole host of other benefits. It also has numerous strong qualities that make it a popular stone for jewellers to use in their beautiful creations.

Find out more about these special white gemstones below.

What is Howlite?

White howlite stones are also known as magnesite. They are the result of calcium borosilicate hydroxide minerals crystalising in the form of nodules, masses, and on occasion, small prismatic crystals. These stones are most commonly found to have a colour scheme that consists of chalky white tones with black veins running through them. However, they have also been known to be brown, and some of them are even without colour.

This stone was first discovered back in 1868 near a town called Windsor in Nova Scotia. A famed Canadian geologist by the name of Henry How was alerted to an odd mineral occurring in a mine close to his office. Upon investigation, he determined that this crystal was a completely new mineral that had never before been discovered.

At the time, How named the mineral ‘silicoborocalcite’, after what he believed its chemical structure was at the time. However, James Dwight Dana, a famed American volcanologist and geologist, later renamed the stone in honour of its founder.

Aside from the original discovery of the howlite crystal in Nova Scotia, the stone can also be found in the United States, Turkey, Serbia and Germany.

What is The Meaning of Howlite?

The howlite stone is one of emotional healing. It has vibrations that directly resonate with the root and crown chakras. This in itself is quite a unique combination, as the stone can open up portals on opposite points of the body. With this white stone, our root chakras become fully connected to the earth and all of the energy that it provides, while at the same time, we are able to stay in direct contact with our higher selves. It is very rare for all these connections to happen all at once.

The energy that flows between the body and the stone is potent, and at first touch, you will notice a sense of calmness overcoming you. This will help to ease any unnecessary weight off your shoulders and can lead to a rise in your level of confidence as your strength begins to awaken.

With these stones, we are reminded of the power that we hold within ourselves.

The howlite crystal will urge us to harness energy and channel it into our own inner healing. The stone helps to nurture our heavenly bodies, while at the same time, portrays the capabilities that our souls have to offer the earth.

In addition to this, this stone can heighten our sense of awareness, as well as the patience that we carry. This calming stone is also thought to help reduce our levels of stress and anger through absorbing negative energies.

Howlite Spiritual and Healing Properties

White howlite carries a whole host of healing properties that help to soothe the mind, the body and the spirit. This calming stone is always ready to help cool down fiery tempers, slow down heartbeats and help us lead with wisdom. It vibrates gently, which helps us to connect and flow, raise our own sense of awareness, and eliminate any cloudiness.

Howlite is a highly emotional stone but it contributes a great deal to aiding in physical health. In terms of physical health, the bone-coloured stone can help to balance calcium levels in the body. With this stone, you can begin to strengthen your skeleton and teeth, as well as grow luscious and shiny hair. The stone also helps to signal the water element, which means that it can remind your body of when it is time to drink more water, sip on some herbal tea or even soak in a nice long bubble bath.

One of the cornerstones of improved mental and emotional health is ensuring that you get enough sleep. The howlite stone can also go a long way in helping your mind to quieten down and switch off the constant stream of noise that everyday life brings. It can initiate a sense of calm and contemplative silence, thus adequately preparing you to relax, unwind, and make sure that you get several restful hours of sleep.

How To Use Howlite

The howlite stone is best used in one of two ways.

Either these stones should be placed along with your other meditation tools so that they can bring a sense of healing and harmony into your life.

Alternatively, the stones can form a part of an item of jewellery that you wear daily, such as a bracelet or necklace. This will aid in helping you achieve a sense of inner peace, as well as calm and conscious living.

How to Care For and Cleanse Howlite

It is important to always keep your howlite crystal cleansed and charged so that it’s ready to be used when you need it most. Gemstones are fantastic at being able to soak up any bad energies so that you can better channel positivity.

As a result, they can easily become clouded by the energies that they aid in removing, which is why cleansing them is so important. These stones can very easily be cleaned simply by running them under flowing water. You can recharge your crystal in the moonlight on a cold, clear night. This will instantly help it increase its energy levels.

How To Tell If Your Howlite Is Fake

One of the easiest ways to tell if your howlite crystal is fake is by looking at the lines on the stone. On a genuine howlite stone, the lines are not painted or drawn on, but will be sunken into the stone. If the lines appear on top of the stone rather than in it, it’s a fake.

A stunning stone with valuable properties, white howlite has numerous benefits, and it’s lovely to look at too.
