The Clove Club which I recently attended via Truly is one of only a few London restaurants to make it onto the World’s 50 Best list, and for good reason… this effortlessly stylish restaurant serves innovative and delicious food in one of Shoreditch’s most beautiful buildings.
Truly Experiences offers unique and unforgettable experiences in London and beyond. They are formed around the importance of collecting memories not ‘things’. It is a concept I love… as a culinary fanatic, I often wish I could give the gift of a special meal to friends and family. Truly have hand-picked an array of amazing experiences so whatever your budget you can find something completely unique to give.
For our Truly experience at The Clove Club we had a surprise set lunch menu. When the booking was made, all dietary requirements were noted so that when we arrived there was no fuss or stress. After a few delicious snacks (including the speciality Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Pine Salt), the meal commenced… a series of creative and tasty dishes.
Our menu was as follows:
- Hay Smoked Trout Tartare, Jersey Royal Potato & Sansho / Pea Mousse, Sherry Cream & Iced Goats Milk
- Roast Orkney Scallops, Grelot Onion, Cinnamon & Curry Leaf / Musselburgh Leeks, Montgomery Cheddar & Watercress
- Spring Herb & Smoked Herring Broth
- Loin of Tamworth Pork, Crisp Potato, Anchovy & Watercress
- Burnt Clementine Sorbet & Spiced Meringue
- Yorkshire Rhubarb, Sheep’s Milk Yoghurt & Rose
Every course was delicate but dynamic, with a beautiful variation of flavours and textures. The chefs at Clove Club focus on the freshest seasonal produce so the menu is constantly changing and evolving. The pea mousse was light and pillowy, a vibrant green colour decorated with edible purple petals. For the main course, the Pork was cooked to perfection with fresh watercress sauce, crunchy potato parcels and an addictive salty pork reduction sauce.
Desserts were a triumph. The Clove Club ensure presentation is always on point as illustrated in the sweet courses. Clementine sorbet and crushed spiced meringue was served in charcoal burnt clementine shells, a novel concept which imparted some delicious smoky flavour too.
The second dessert was a pretty-in-pink rhubarb and rose concoction. Layers of finely sliced tart rhubarb were paired with sweet, creamy set yoghurt and finished with a biscuit disc topped with rose dust. It was fun to discover, but wonderful also to taste.
Just as I was lamenting that it was ‘all over’ the waitress arrived at our table with a final trio of treats. The petit fours were just as intriguing as the rest of the meal: Peated Barley Bun, Dr Henderson’s Bon Bon, Salted Caramel Chocolates. Each inspired by a different memory.
Truly Experiences are a thoughtful gift service… the perfect solution for those ‘impossible to buy for’ relatives and friends. Our menus were signed by Daniel and Isaac for us to take away, a lovely memory of our special meal.
